Development of Prevention-Oriented Health Policy
Nurses’ influence on prevention-based policy safeguards the quality of care via access to needed opportunities and resources. Evaluating the present condition of preventative-based health policy creates several fundamental research questions that could solve vital gaps (Crowley et al., 2018). Additionally, evidence suggests that certain health promotion interventions and disease prevention, when cautiously developed, well assessed, systematically executed, and intended at a particular health problem could create a difference. There is global evidence that organizational patterns of concerns influence the creation of prevention-linked health policy (Crowley et al., 2018). Further, the endeavors of the nurse leaders and public health structure should receive good political will. Besides, the public health system should also identify and explore the full potential of new strategies and options for prevention-based policy and action. The socioeconomic situation of clients perpetuates, creates, and influences most health challenges. Consequently, socioeconomic status is a major determinant in the development of health prevention-centered policies. For instance, studies suggest that the most efficient programs for young people and children are made at the national level, aided by the general society, and advance national policies to reduce poverty and improve social equality (Champoux et al., 2020).To be most effective public health interventions should cater for all the indirect and direct influences on the affected population.
Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) Role in Promoting Health and Preventing Disease
Population health has emerged as a leading epidemiological strategy that summarizes both health promotion and public health (Bryant-Lukosius et al., 2017). With their experience and knowledge received in the work environment, APN nurses enjoy better positions in the
health team that facilities their involvement in health policies by allowing effective plans. The nurses can promote health by recognizing policymakers’ major pressing requirements and enabling collaboration with researchers to create policy ideas that could aid the utilization of policy research. Additionally, the nurses’ leaders may pay more attention and become more politically shrewd to political determinants of health at the national level. Health disparities are widening worldwide and the most vulnerable populations face difficulties receiving patient-focused care and accessing the health system. Nurse leaders may, therefore, work together to address health issues at both national and global levels by collaborating with nurse leaders from other nations.

Health policy focused on prevention is created with the help of different inspirations. Raingruber (2017) explains that health is influenced by many aspects including social circumstances, environmental conditions, behavioral choices, and medical care. Both economic advantages and disadvantages and health education are considered when developing prevention-oriented health policy. Quality of healthcare along with its costs are other factors considered when creating preventative health policy. Rother (2016) discusses the imperative problem the United States faces regarding increased healthcare costs. Efforts are being made to both improve quality of care while decreasing costs of care for Americans. One of the causes for increased healthcare expenditures is high numbers of preventable chronic diseases. If preventative health policy can focus on ways to decrease the occurrence of preventable illnesses from occurring both improved health and decreased healthcare costs will result. The advanced practice nurse can promote health and prevent disease on a national and global level by advocation. Raingruber (2017) stresses how nurses must not only advocate for their patients but for their profession. The advanced practice nurse knows how time spent with his or her patients is essential from not only proper diagnosis but to deliver effective treatment and good care. Nurse staffing issues are a problem that prevents healthcare providers from doing so. Wang et al. (2020) explains that nurse staffing is the most important factor impacting patient outcomes. There is an increased risk for falls and deaths of patients when there is insufficient nurse staffing. Nurses must protect not only their patients but their licenses and professions by advocating for health policy regarding nurse staffing. National policies regulating nurse staffing will promote health and prevent disease because nurses will be able to properly care for their patients and spend the time educating them on how to improve their health which will ultimately prevent them from developing avoidable illnesses.

Prevention-oriented health policy influences all populations and may differ based on location and accessibility. Preventing a disease requires more than handing out information to people. Although knowledge is necessary that aim is to guide the nation to an achievable means of improving health and well-being. A health care policy coordinates with organizations, financial institutions, policy makers to develop health care policies. Kavannah et. al, (2020) state that policies define the structure of health systems, setting the rules for such things as what authority the government must prevent disease and how medical service providers are paid (p.110). However, some factors that influence the development of polies include the availability of data regarding the target population, socio-economic factors, and health problems of the society, family, and individual. Public and private divisions can improve the coordination and collaboration of developing prevention-oriented health polices by eliminating health disparities. No population should shoulder a disproportionate burden of illness and disease. Administrations can explicitly consider the potential health impact of policy options and choose to implement those policies that improve health
Advance practice nurses have a pivotal role to promote health and prevent diseases at a national and global level. As health care providers they can empower people to make reasonable, informed, and healthy choices. They can provide people with information and encourage education to independently manage their health. Kleinpell et. al (2020) state that a national collaborative has proven that advance practice nurses lead innovative programs that promote high-value care, by promoting best clinical practices, institution wide changes, and sharing improved protocols and quality measures (p.636). Advance practice nurse are strong, innovative, financially savvy, and willing to take on increasingly difficult and complex situations. They provide vital support by supporting flexibility and agility as employees respond to the constantly changing global healthcare market (Edmonson, et. al (2017). They professional leaders, policy makers, and active in their community and workplaces. Their profession allows them to impact polices worldwide.
